Shine His Light and Love

Hello, everyone!
It's Deeds with Sweet n Sassy Stamps!  I'm doing a creative blog today - something fun that I hope you'll all try at some point!
Today, I merely want to tell you how to make these wonderfully encouraging (and simple) cards for your friends, family, acquaintances, or random passers-by.

1st: The Smooshing - Deeds' preferred method of creating a backdrop that also allows for inspiration for the rest of the card.
With your medium (I usually use distress oxide, Pitt Big Brush Pens, or Tombow markers for this step), apply color to a nonstick surface.  There's no "trick" to getting this right, but I usually prefer to do lighter tones so that later, I can work on top of it with stamps, vellum, writing, etc.  After spritzing with water, SMOOSH that card down into the pigment until you've gathered a good amount onto your card.  Sometimes a few smooshings will do the trick. ;)

2nd: Air/Heat tool dry.  I have seen that whether or not I allow them to airdry makes no significant difference.  There is plenty of time saved when the heat tool is used to dry the card.  This will also set the ink in place so that it discontinues to spread throughout the damp card.

3rd (my favorite part): Stamping images/sentiments.  At Sweet n Sassy Stamps, we have PLENTY of options for sentiments, ranging from faith-based, funny, supportive and festive! I am using some of our July Release today as well as a smattering of this and that from prior months.  I love simple, and these make it easy to go that direction!

4th: Adding color and texture.  This comes as an after thought usually.  I like to examine the strengths of the card before I pass it on to someone.  I consider the weight of the color, the layers, etc.  This is the part that brings the most joy in diversity - no two of my card creations have ever been the same! Adding something like a dollop of Nuvo drops, or washi tape, or glitter, can be invigorating!  It's so much fun to experiment and see how many versions of a card I can come with using the exact same stamps on each.

5th: Direct someone to the Word of God - the living and active words of truth and life!
After you've created, be sure to include a verse from the Bible where they can find hope, love, truth, identity, stability and help!  God is the God who sees, knows, and has every intention of doing what is good and right for us and for His glory.  This is the perfect time to remind a friend/family member of God's amazing attributes.
This method of loving on someone never gets old.  In fact, this is most likely the easiest and sweetest way to show someone that you are thinking of them and care for them very much.
When was the last time you slipped a love note under your spouses pillow?
When was the last time your mom saw you create something special just for her?
Who in your life is struggling to live life victoriously as a child of God and could use the encouragement of perseverance?
Is there someone you know (maybe not formally or intimately) that is battling cancer and would love to hear a good word?
What about the Walmart pickup guy?
What about the Dunkin Donuts cashier?
How long has it been since you made valentine's cards for your children?
What about your server at Red Robin?
We are not short on "open doors" to minister in this very simple way.  A card?  Really, just a card?  YES!  And having been on the receiving end of some beautifully inspiring encouragement myself, I can tell you with a hearty AMEN - these will make someone's day.

6th: The Why?
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Simply put, we are the light of the world and fellow image-bearers of the One True King.  By lending a piece of your time and creativity to another, we are bringing light into what could be a very gloomy situation; a troubled marriage; a broken home; a lost child; a hardened parent; a dry faith.  You never know.  And will never know until you've followed Jesus' steps in drawing others to the Lord.
I'm praying that you have found a bit of inspiration today, and that you will let someone know about the value of their life, and the Love of your God and Father.

Much love, creative worshipers!
